Show your dog some love this Valentine’s Weekend: 7 pet-friendly events in DFW

iStock_valdayThere’s no doubt that we humans love our dogs. And for most of the year, dog enthusiasts like us sometimes have to defend our somewhat eccentric behavior. Sure, we dress our dogs in fashion-forward sweaters. So what if we pamper our pooches with memory foam dog beds? And what’s the big deal about only feeding our dogs organic treats? Some may find our behavior to be over-the-top, but on Valentine’s Day we all go the extra mile to show our loved ones how much we care. What better time to let Fido or Fifi know how much we appreciate their unconditional love? And for the single dog-owner, there’s no better wingman (or wingstress) than your four-legged friends.

Here are a few pet-friendly Valentine’s Day Weekend events in the DFW area:

Valentine’s Day at The Park
Friday, February 14 from 6:30-10:00 PM

You and your furry love bug can enjoy this fantastic weather and the gorgeous Dallas skyline tonight at Klyde Warren Park in downtown Dallas, while enjoying the music of the Mad Men Swing Band and sipping champagne. OK, don’t give your dog any champagne. Or anything from the pop-up dessert bar by Savor. Just bring some extra special treats with you for your furry companion, and just feel awesome in the fact that nobody with a dog can ever be lonely on Valentine’s Day. Free.

My Furry Valentine
Saturday, February 15 from 11 AM – 2 PM

Just because V-day is over doesn’t mean the love stops! (Plus, Feb 15 is like it’s own holiday. National Chocolate Is On Sale Day.) Grab some friends and head over to this family- and dog-friendly event at Main Street Garden in downtown Dallas. If you’re thinking about adding another member to your family, you’re in luck – adoptable dogs from several local rescue groups will be on site. Free.

Hound Haven Howl-entine’s Day Event
Saturday, February 15 from 1 – 5 PM

Now this is an event that any social doggie will love! So many activities, so little time. There will be professional dog photos, a doggie kissing booth, bake sale, silent auction, Paw Print Valentines, discounted microchipping ($15), door prizes, and some great contests – Best Kisser, Best Dressed, and Best Trick. Bring some cash, because all this fun is benefiting local rescue group Hound Haven. And there will be adoptable dogs as well! All this doggie greatness will take place at the Petco parking lot in Highland Village.

All FUR Fun Grand Opening
Sunday, February 16 from 10AM – 3PM

All FUR Fun Training and Event Center in Addison is having its official grand opening celebration this Sunday. It’s DFW’s largest indoor training facility (18,000 square feet!), which is important to know during those harsh weather spells. Pet vendors and rescue groups will be on site, so come by with your dog and take a look around. They will also have food, agility and rally demonstrations, and the first 150 guests will get a free goodie bag! (P.S. Dallas Dog Life will have a table there, so stop by so I can meet you!) Free.

Dog Days at Lee Harvey’s
Sunday, February 16 – all day

Every Sunday is Dog Dog at Lee Harvey’s, and Valentine’s SunDay will be no different. Well-behaved, social, and sterilized dogs can run off leash in their huge fenced-in gravel yard. Happy Hour lasts all day long and features $2.75 domestic (non-microbrew) beers and well drinks. Bring your dog and mingle with the other dog-lovers this Valentine’s Weekend – who knows who you may meet?

Don’t Forget to Feed Me Valentine Food Drive
Entire Month of February

If you’re just not in the mood to face all red hearts and chocolate and whatnot, that’s okay – you can still spread some love and help dogs this weekend. Paradise 4 Paws Pet Resort is hosting a pet food drive throughout the month of February. Don’t Forget to Feed Me is an organization that helps pet owners who are struggling with the costs of feeding their beloved pets. Stop by with a bag of dog food and thank them for their hard work. And they can always use volunteers, if you are looking for a way to help.

So there you have it. Hope to see you out and about this weekend! Happy Valentine’s Day!
