Obie’s Visit to North Texas

On Thursday, November 21, a very special dog named Obie and his mom Nora came to the Prairie Paws Animal Shelter in Grand Prairie as part of his nationwide tour to raise awareness about Pet Obesity.

Obie, formerly AJ, is a standard Dachshund who was owned by an elderly couple who showed their love with food. A family member decided to step in ask for help for Obie. When he arrived at his new mom Nora’s home, he was 77 pounds and desperately needed to lose weight. Under veterinary supervision, Nora has helped Obie lose over 50 pounds in one year! He is now down to a normal weight of 25 pounds and is traveling the country to inspire others who might be dealing with the same issues with their dogs.

Dozens of people stood in line with their dogs to take photos with Obie, and to share their stories of how Obie has inspired them. Turtle the Painting Pit Bull, along with her “security dog” Leroy Brown, were also present.

His weekly weigh-ins, diet and exercise regimen, and photos can be found on his website, www.obiedog.com. You can also see photos of his tour on his Facebook Page, Biggest Loser, Doxie Edition.
